Differences between the 2018 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback

At PJ's Mazda — a Vermont Mazda dealership — we have a pretty even mix of 2018 Mazda3 sedans and Mazda3 hatchback models. As you shop for these stylish, entry-level vehicles, you might be wondering if there are differences between the two!

Aside from the cargo capabilities, which we'll touch on shortly, the sedan and hatchback models are pretty much identical. The other differences include a different rear design (which makes sense because one is a sedan and one is a hatchback) and there are slight differences in the package options. However, when it comes to trim levels, the engine, and convenience and safety amenities, what you can get on one you can get on the other.

Cargo Space Differences

The Mazda3 sedan has a trunk that is 12.4 cubic feet. If you tend to travel light, this should be fine and if you have larger needs a few times a year you can always call on a friend or use a car rental service. If you consistently need more space, we suggest going with the Mazda3 hatchback. With all seats up you'll have 20.2 cubic feet of space and if you fold the back seats flat you'll have up to 47.1 cubic feet! That's not bad.

Another interesting thing is that the hatchback model is actually 5-inches shorter than the sedan, so if you spend a lot of time parallel parking in the city you might appreciate the less lengthy option.

To see which Mazda3 version is right for you, stop into our Vermont Mazda dealership this week for a test drive! We have a great selection to choose from and are eager to help you drive away in a stylish and well-equipped ride.
