See How the New Mazda3 Compares to the Competition

The new Mazda3 we have available at P.J.'s Mazda is proof that driving a small car can be exciting and fun. Available in either a four-door sedan style or an eye-catching hatchback, the Mazda3 offers the signature elements we love about the Mazda lineup (high-end interior, performance, topnotch quality) in a compact size that's comfortable for both drivers and passengers.

As much as we love the Mazda3, we understand that there are other small cars available here in the greater Burlington area. Few can compete with the luxury-level interior and performance of the Mazda3, though.

To illustrate some of the many reasons why the Mazda3 stands out to the competition, we've put together this convenient comparison page for you.

The Mazda3 vs. the Subaru Impreza

On the surface, these two cars seem to have a lot in common. They're both available in hatchback and sedan styles, they both offer four-cylinder engines under the hood, and both have available all-wheel drive. But, read on to see some of the ways the Mazda clearly comes out ahead of the Subaru model:

  • Interior design and space. Every vehicle in the Mazda lineup is renowned for its high-end interior. Mazda designs each interior with meticulous attention to detail and top-quality materials. Even the base model Mazda3 feels like a luxury model. The same can't be said about the interior of the Subaru Impreza. Plus, the Mazda3 is wider overall than the Subaru Impreza, meaning you, and your passengers, will enjoy more elbow room and shoulder room in the Mazda than in the Subaru. This will be especially important when transporting three adults side-by-side in the backseat.
  • Driving options. With the addition of available all-wheel drive to the Mazda3, our car is more than ready to tackle the snowiest winter storms and treacherous Vermont road conditions. It's also more than capable of taking on the Subaru car, with its standard all-wheel drive. However, Mazda understands that not every customer necessarily wants all-wheel drive, which is why they make it available as an option, compared to the Impreza, which gives it to you whether you want it or not.

  • Engine power. Both cars have standard power from a four-cylinder engine. However, the Mazda3 gives you more power and more get-up-and-go than the Subaru. Get safely up to highway speeds quickly and efficiently in a Mazda3, which has 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, compared to the 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque the Impreza offers.
  • Size and ground clearance. The Mazda3 and the Subaru Impreza have similar overall dimensions, including near-identical measurements for height and length. However, the Mazda3 measures a little wider than the Subaru, and it also has a higher ground clearance. That little bit of extra height means your ride is smoother in a Mazda, especially on bumpy Vermont dirt roads and pothole-strewn highways, and it also means the Mazda is a little easier for getting in and out of. You won't feel the need to hoist yourself up into a large vehicle like you would with a big SUV, nor will you have to scrunch close to the ground and feel cramped when getting in and out of the Mazda3.
